The movie is about three brothers and a sister. The brothers include a would-be tough guy thug, a sleazy lawyer and an anarchist. The anarchist and the sister (Maria Strzelecka) have a thing for each other that is more than just sibling affection. Each of them is facing a problem of their own making. A lot depends on how they deal with their issues, as there isn't much lower they can stoop other than being dead. In the beginning of the film there is a lot going on, which makes it a little hard to follow, but that goes along with the theme of chaos.

XVIII siècle. Janosik a passé sa jeunesse dans l'armée et il a été confronté à la violence, à la cruauté et à l'injustice. En rentrant chez lui, il rejoint une bande de brigands. Intrépide, charismatique et guerrier habile, il s'impose très vite comme leur chef. Volant les riches pour redistribuer aux plus démunis, magnanime, laissant la vie sauve à ses victimes, il devient rapidement très populaire dans la région. Mais son insolent succès réveille des haines et des jalousies : désormais, son existence est menacée....

In the spring of 1944 in Poland, near the end of WWII, Janina faces a huge change in her life when her father decides to offer a shelter to his Jewish friend’s daughter Ester. One day, her father is arrested and Janina starts to take care of Ester by herself and in doing so secret emotions rise between them.
