En URSS, au début des années 1950. Après avoir quitté Leningrad, le jeune Endel arrive à Haapsalu, une petite ville estonienne, où il exerce comme professeur d'éducation physique. Son passé d'escrimeur suscitant la curiosité des élèves, il prend l'initiative d'animer un club de fleuret dans le cadre des activités extrascolaires.
